A group of students under the direction of Arts Council teaching artist, Barry Meyer, have created a public service announcement promoting crosswalk safety.
On February 8, 2012, middle school student Quinn Ortiz was killed after being struck by a vehicle while he crossed a busy area of Main Street. Many of Jamestown Public School students walk to and from their buildings, often crossing heavily trafficked streets.
Your News Network recently featured the making of the video in one of their reports, viewable here.
The students, some of whom knew Quinn, decided to use newly developed video-making skills to inform the public of pedestrian and driver safety. The video will be made public in a matter of weeks.
Media activities at the Eastside YMCA are made possible by funding from 21st Century Community Learning Centers and instructional support from Arts Council For Chautauqua County.
