Music/Dance – Elementary and Middle School
Folk Dance Workshop
Students learn basic folk dance steps and directions and then learn authentic folk dances from various countries. Ms. Bush stresses that dance should be for everyone and not just for those who find it easy. Folk dance is the only form of dance that provides true integrated learning across the curriculum, for example music, dance, cultural history, social studies, history and geography.

Steps ‘n Stories
Ms. Bush takes a piece of literature or poetry being studied by the students, or original poetry written by the students and creates an interpretation of it using dance, creative movement and music. Through this residency, students are exposed to the discipline of dance, rehearsal techniques and etiquette, basic stage directions and different types of music. The residency culminates in a performance. This may be done with one class or an entire grade level. NYS Learning Standards: ARTS 1-4 ELA 1,4 PHYS-ED 1
